Autumn Term Topics
Autumn Term Topic 1: Mighty Metals
During this Science led topic we explored the scientific world of forces and magnetism, metals and materials. We visited Snibston Discovery Museum and learnt all about forces such as: pushes, pulls, friction, gravity, drag and air resistance. It was great fun when we created our own parachutes and tested them to see which ones worked particularly well! Together, we read ‘The Iron Man’ by Ted Hughes and at Hogarth’s request we built our very own robotic companion for the lonely Iron Man.
Autumn Term Topic 2: Hooray Hinckley
This topic had an Art & Design focus, where the pupils looked closely at the town of Hinckley and what it has to offer. Using digital mapping, we looked at Hollycroft Park and planned a route there. We walked to St. Mary’s church in the town centre and learnt about its history as the oldest building in Hinckley. Using long-exposure photography, we created amazing light graffiti images. Finally in Science, we looked at the difference between a source and a reflector of light and watched a fantastic shadow puppet theatre show. To conclude the topic we exhibited a range of the artwork we had created.
Autumn/Spring Term Topic 3: Scrumdiddlyumptious
The children will tuck in and enjoy a yummy journey of discovery, tasting fantastic fruits, venerable vegetables and tantalizing treats! We will work up an appetite with delicious stories about food, have fun with a vegetable orchestra and become fruity sculptors.
The children will look at exciting recipes and write their own. They will get busy in the kitchen, making tasty dishes and discover how good food helps them to grow fit and strong. During our innovate week, we will create and whizz up our own scrumdiddlyumptious smoothies.
