Latest Update (22/1/21)

As we reach the halfway point of this first half term, I wanted to update you on a few changes going forward.

Firstly, thank you for your continued support in adhering to the Government guidelines and therefore helping us all keep safe during this pandemic. Please remember to follow the Hands-Face-Space message on school grounds and in the community and to follow isolation guidance should anyone in your household develop symptoms of COVID 19.

Staff COVID Testing

As you may have heard through the media, all school staff are now being offered a Covid-19 Lateral Flow Test(LFT) twice a week and staff at Battling Brook begin this procedure next week. The DfE state that regular asymptomatic testing is an important addition to supporting leaders to maintain the continuity of education through the pandemic. At present, as many as 1 in 3 people who have COVID 19 are asymptomatic and by participating in these tests, schools can help in reducing the spread of the disease.

Staff welcome this additional measure in terms of protecting each other, however it is necessary to inform you that by agreeing to take part in this national testing, this may have an impact on our school provision.

There are specific instructions about when staff are to administer their home tests, which do include first thing in the morning. If a member of staff gets a positive result from one of these tests, this will mean the following;

•             The staff member will immediately contact the school and the relevant Bubble will have to close immediately and isolate until further notice.

•             The staff member would then have to get an official Covid-19 test as soon as possible.

•             If the outcome of that test is positive, the self-isolation of the close contacts would continue for 10 days (including any days that they have self-isolated following the LFT positive outcome).

•             If the outcome of that test is negative, the bubble would be able to return to school as soon as possible.

We wanted to let parents know this because it could mean you are notified of a bubble closure first thing in the morning; this may also have a brief delay to communication regarding home learning whilst staffing levels are adjusted. Please be rest assured we have no control over that aspect but we will notify parents as soon as possible, should we need to.

Mr Marsden Ppdate

Mr Marsden is looking forward to starting a phased return to work over the next few weeks. I know we will all be pleased to see him back at Battling Brook.

As always, thank you for your continued fantastic support.

Take care and best wishes,

Mrs Mathie
